Mata Amritanandamayi Devi
"Mātā Amritānandamayī Devī, better known simply as Amma, is a Hindu spiritual leader, guru and humanitarian, who is revered as a saint by her followers."
"Our highest, most important duty in this world is to help our fellow beings."
"Our attitude should be: Whatever happens I will remain strong, courageous and happy."
"Our efforts to remove hatred and indifference from the world begin by trying to remove them from our own mind"
"Along with an understanding of the outer world, it is essential that we also come to know the inner world"

“Just as the right hand comes to dress the wound on the left hand, we should see another person's sorrows as our own and come to his or her aid."
"God's power is not something outside.
It is within us.
We need to awaken that power."

Om Namah Shivaya
I know this passage, this mantra, this greeting, this pranam like I know the back of my hand. As it is familiar to me from 1981 when i first heard it and began using it.
The Sivananda Org under my first Yoga teacher and later Guru (remover of darkness) honors Siva (Shiva)the Divine consort of Goddess Shakti. Whom I'm honored to have been named after by my Guru Swami Vishnu Devananda (Swamiji) back in 1988.
I find it difficult to put into words the immense feelings that I have for Ma, as i do for my Swamiji. I believe this is true for anything or anyone that's gives your life more life, more vibrancy, more reason, more understanding, etc that gives your life more! And so it was in 1981 as it was in 2016, i needed a boat load of MORE.
My life has significantly transformed and spiraled since meeting her in 2017. I will share more of Swamiji when I invite him into this wisdom series.
Actually my first meeting with Amma was etheric, as she appeared to my friend and I glowing thru purple and golden and white hues. When I was first introduced to her (a few months prior to her appearing before us) I had put up a mental wall. I imagined a huge crucifix when another friend told me about her and that she was going to visit her in San Ramon, California.
It was at that point in time in my life in 2016 where I was done with teachers and guru's and what have yous. I had a rough period between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2015. 18 months of deceptive hell! What started all nicey nicey, inviting and intriguing became (within a few months) a quite manipulative organization AKA Cult. Actually it was always that, but my naivete, my desperate, for a thriving spiritual community self, didn't see clearly and was quickly roped all the way, in. I later found out their recruitment techniques began with the first phone call. The entire community was asked to mentally project inquiriers into the community.
Hey I was prime canidate, Young, Gifted and Black to put it bluntly. Though past the age for breeding, I had lots of qualities they were seeking as well as my savings, car and meger possessions.
So that is another long ass story, but Amma came to me via that friend when I wanted nothing to do with another teacher, even as cute and humble as she seemed. (Opps Amma and ass in the same sentence, I'm such a rebel :) That huge crucifix was in my mind, and in my heart warding off my seeking anything outside of myself.
It was a few months later that another friend mentioned Amna. He knew nada of my previous encounter with Amma, and I thought not again! He mentioned that she would be in DC and we should go check out who she is and what she's about. Still I had resistance and no that trip did not happen!
What did happen, was that she came to us, so the trip was not necessary. It was at that instant, that I was finally convinced to look her way, drop the cross and see what life was screeching.
It is said that when the student is ready the teacher will appear. I had always thought of that in physical terms, but this time it was a real shocker. It's wonderful when these etheric things, these woo woo happenings, happen. It is especially cool when they happen not merely singly when you can ponder `have I lost my frickin lid´, but my friend and I both saw her, there could be no confusion, no denial, no doubt.
Still to be continued...
Meanwhile a lil more on
Om Namah Shivaya
Om Namah Shivaya (Devanagari: ॐ नमः शिवाय; IAST: Om Namaḥ Śivāya) is one of the most popular Hindu Mantra and the most important mantra in Shaivism. Namah Shivaya means "O salutations to the auspicious one!", or “adoration to Lord Shiva", or "universal consciousness is one". ... It is a holy salutation to Lord Shiva."
"Om Namah Shivaya is also known as the five syllable mantra, as it has five syllables which are preceded by the Om (or Aum). Among other things, these five syllables represent the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and space.
Om Namah Shivaya is one of the most beloved Hindu mantras. It is a salutation to Shiva, one of the three primary deities of Hinduism, and literally translates to “I bow to Shiva.”
In yoga, this mantra is chanted during meditation in order to help realize the inner Self and possesses the qualities of prayer, divine love, grace, truth and blissfulness. It is also the initiation mantra of the Siddha yoga lineage"
